Coffee ☕️
Caffeine is the fuel that runs communities. Community never sleeps, and neither do we so anything related to coffee and caffeine is always well enjoyed.
Sunglasses 🕶️
Maintaining boundaries and giving ourselves permission to walk away for a bit when things are getting heated with a member situation is how we keep going in the marathon of community management. A nice pair of sunglasses to help us enjoy a break outdoors is great for our wellbeing. I personally recommend Goodr big heads, but each CM has their own vibe.
Noise Canceling Headphones 🎧
Our daily work is often derailed by what I lovingly like to refer to as dumpster fires. Most people have no idea the intensity and duration of what our day to days look like, and we need the ability to completely focus in any environment. Noise canceling headphones are the difference between getting that work done and being a stressed out grump. They also allow us to work in different environments, because sometimes you just need a different view to take care of those pesky metric reports.
Curved Monitor 🖥️
If you are looking for a splurge item, consider a curved computer monitor. Having your community tab open alongside your project work makes keeping everything under control a dream.
A genuine thank you 💌
The easiest way to make a CM’s day is to thank them for the work they do. We work tirelessly to ensure our members experience is the best it can be, and most people have no idea how much work that actually takes. A genuine thank you is the greatest gift I’ve ever received as a CM.
This is of course a short list, what did I miss? What are your essential items as a Community Manager? Happy Holidays to all the CMs out there, your work is often unseen so let me take this moment to remind you how valued and appreciated all your efforts are!
